Does music have borders?

We often say 'Music has no borders'. This sentence, like most of our commonly used phrases, cannot be traced back to its origin. Different people use it for different purposes in different situations and give different interpretations. In June 2020, Slovenian Croatian cellist Luka Sulic released a video of him playing on Monte Canin, Italy, with the title "No Borders". This video also has the caption "Music has no borders, no race or color, no national restrictions, no race. Music brings people together." Sulik seems to hope that his performance can give strength to the people who have been struggling during the pandemic, and his chosen piece is German composer Bach's Cello Suite No. 1 in G major.
