Internationally-acclaimed piano player, Yuja Wang, is the subject of a new documentary, titled YUJA.
One of the most dynamic and in-demand performers of the 21st century, Wang has built a worldwide reputation for her fearless and captivating performances on the concert stage.
Now, the six-time Grammy Award nominee’s dazzling career has caught the attention of documentary filmmaker Lorna Tucker, to tell the story of one of the world’s greatest musicians, caught at a career crossroads.
From critical acclaim to criticism over her wardrobe choices, musical opinions, career paths and more, Wang has carved a singular figure through the classical music industry. But is she now falling out of love with the art?

Born in Beijing to a dancer mother and a percussionist father, Yuja Wang began to play the piano at the age of six, joining Beijing’s Central Conservatory of Music and later the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, USA.
Showing exceptional talent in her early career, she was signed to the major label Deutsche Grammophon aged 21 and earned her first Grammy nomination with her debut album Sonatas & Etudes in the same year.
With ‘unprecedented access’ to the pianist’s career and private life, YUJA examines the intense demands and pressures placed on Wang as a pianist, performer, and Asian woman in the public eye.
Collaborators from across Wang’s career have also lent their unique voices and relationships with Wang to the documentary, including conductor Michael Tilson Thomas, pianist Emanuel Ax, conductor Teddy Abrams and Wang’s former manager, Philippa Cole.
“Yuja Wang is a once-in-a-generation talent whose artistry transcends genres,” director Lorna Tucker said. “This film is a personal exploration of the elements that shape her distinct musical voice.”
YUJA is out on 10 September 2026.
